Arts and culture

From professional, amateur and community performances, to dedicated festivals – Dublin and the Midlands has plenty on offer as a location to soak up Irish arts and cultural performances.

Dublin, of course, is at the forefront of the nation’s arts scene, home to a stunning array of top venues.

The Midlands area also plays host to some of the biggest events each year – Electric Picnic, Ireland’s own Glastonbury, Fleadh Ceoil na hEireann, a huge annual celebration of Irish music and culture, and the ever popular National Ploughing Championships.

If the huge arena and international headliners at Electric Picnic aren’t for you, there is no end to the local musical talents on display in smaller local venues.

There is a rich sporting culture in the region, and Gaelic Games are an integral part of every community. Rugby and golf are also very popular, with some of Ireland’s top golf courses here, including the K Club, which hosted the Ryder Cup.

This area is renowned for its equine heritage and has three prominent racecourses, numerous stud farms, including the prestigious Irish National Stud and Gardens and top trainers’ yards.

Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports are all within one to three hours depending on your location, making the Midlands the perfect base to access most of the country.
