Welcome to HSE Dublin and North East

The North East of Ireland is a wonderful mix of busy urban centres and ancient history, stretching from the banks of the River Liffey in Dublin City Centre, to the border with Northern Ireland, and west to the border with Co Donegal.

You are spoiled for choice with the many bustling towns up and down the coastal area, such as Malahide, Swords, Drogheda, Dundalk, Cavan and Monaghan, but you don’t have to sacrifice spectacular attractions. The region is home to Ireland’s most significant prehistoric site at Newgrange, older than the Pyramids of Egypt.

There are pretty seaside villages like Carlingford and Skerries, a lake for every day of the year in Cavan, as well as rugged mountain ranges and the rolling landscapes of the Boyne Valley.

Arts and culture

Dublin is a modern and culturally rich city that captivates its visitors with its unique blend of Gaelic traditions in its modern society. Naturally it is home to a thriving arts scene. Here you can see a Broadway show at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, catch a thumping live performance from the likes of Oasis or Coldplay at Croke Park, or sample the best of Irish and international comedy acts at Vicar Street.

The North East is also steeped in a rich music and arts tradition, with lots of local venues and theatres showcasing local talent.

This area boasts a massive choice of top-class sporting facilities, evident in an impressive array of medals for Team Ireland in the Paris Olympics 2024.
