Katie Holohan, Assistant Director of Public Health Nursing

Katie Holohan is an Assistant Director of Public Health Nursing based in Dublin North West.

“I manage a large dynamic nursing team, who work collaboratively to provide optimal nursing care to the community in which they work. I value compassionate leadership and my experience to date helps me to understand the challenges that nurses face”.

Katie started out as a registered general nurse before completing the Student PHN Sponsorship Postgraduate Programme in 2015. She has a Master’s degree in Public Health Nursing.

“I would definitely encourage colleagues to do the Master’s degree in Public Health Nursing as it opens many doors and avenues towards career progression. Participating in the Master’s degree broadens your knowledge/understanding and highlights the value of the work we do.”

Katie would also encourage nurses to progress into management.

“In my experience management roles are very well supported, particularly Dublin North West. I have received great help, support and advice from my management team, particularly my colleagues, the Director and the Assistant Directors of Public Health Nursing.  As managers we can support our staff and advocate for services locally. The difference you can make to the community and your team is profound.”
