A Career in Radiation Therapy at Galway University Hospital

Radiation Therapists play a vital role in the delivery of radiation therapy services: we are the only health professionals qualified to plan and deliver Radiotherapy. In our role, we support patients through each and every step of their cancer journey.

In Ireland, radiotherapy facilities are provided at Galway University Hospital, Cork University Hospital and in Dublin through the St. Luke’s Radiation and Oncology Network (SLRON).

At Galway University Hospital, the new 8,000sqm state-of-the-art Radiation Oncology Centre boasts six radiotherapy treatment vaults using the most advanced linear accelerator technology; a brachytherapy suite with surgical theatre and treatment rooms; a superficial suite for skin treatments; a radiation oncology outpatient suite with 12 clinic rooms and facilities for patient review and support.

We are now looking for Radiation Therapists to operate our new dedicated Radiotherapy MRI scanner.

Career Development

As expert professionals in Oncology there are various ways you can develop your career as a Radiation Therapist.

Once you’ve gained experience, there are opportunities to take on roles with increased clinical responsibilities in a variety of areas within oncology services.

These include:
⇒ radiotherapy treatment planning
⇒ on-treatment patient review and support services
⇒ working with students and learners as a practice educator
⇒ clinical research/trials

As your career progresses and roles like Advanced Practice are developed you are welcome to apply for same.

You could move into a radiotherapy service management role, with responsibility for the strategic delivery and planning, along with the day-to-day operational management of radiotherapy services.
