The West and North West has the perfect balance of vibrancy and tranquilty.

It has bustling towns and cities, such as Galway, dubbed one of the hippest cities in Europe, Westport, Sligo and Letterkenny, all renowned for their lively arts, food and drink, and music scene.

Yet not far away, you will be able to enjoy some of the most breathtaking mountain and coastal landscapes on this planet.

The local people are famous for their friendly welcomes, with a fabulous sense of community spirit evident across its many towns and villages.

Who we are

HSE West and North West provides health and social care in Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and West Cavan through Community services, Acute settings and Voluntary sector services.

Community Healthcare Services are the broad range of services in a non-acute hospital setting, delivered as close as possible to people’s homes at the right time, in the right place, by the right team.

There are Primary Care Centres in the Region and specialist teams working in Mental Health, Health and Wellbeing, Social Care and Disability Services.  Services are provided in various settings including the service user’s own home, day hospitals, community nursing units, hostels, specialist day care centres, training centres, respite care, and residential services.

The region has seven acute hospitals and the services delivered include inpatient scheduled care, unscheduled/emergency care, maternity services, outpatient and diagnostic services. For more information on the hospitals, click here

Arts and culture

Nowhere quite epitomises Irish arts and culture than this area.

Home to two of the country’s largest Irish-speaking regions, traditional culture plays a prominent role in life here.

There are strong roots in music, Gaelic games and the Irish language, and this part of the country has long been a showcase of culture, heritage and the arts.

Imagine switching off after work on one of the county’s golf courses, walking or cycling the famous Wild Atlantic Way, angling the many rivers and lakes, windsurfing, kayaking, kitesurfing, or even surfing some of Europe’s best waves.

Connectivity

Dublin and Belfast international airports can both be reached within two hours depending on your location in the region.

Co Mayo’s own Knock airport provides flights to over 20 destinations in the UK and Europe.

Donegal airport, in the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht, provides twice daily flights to Dublin, getting you to the capital in under an hour, and from there to Europe, Asia, America and all major international destinations, as you may wish.

Also close by are Shannon and Derry City airports.
