The Mid West region has a wealth of natural treasures on its doorstep. From the UNESCO sites of the Cliffs of Moher and The Burren geopark, to the spectacular Atlantic coastline, this area offers something very special.

The Mid West’s position near the Atlantic coast gives superb opportunities for invigorating outdoor adventure. It’s also home to the incredible 40km Limerick Greenway.

But you don’t have to sacrifice the buzz of urban life. Limerick city is at the heart of the region, with the bustling towns of Ennis, Lahinch and Nenagh close by.

Who we are

HSE Mid West provides health and social care in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary through Community services, Acute settings and Voluntary sector services.

Community Healthcare Services are the broad range of services in a non-acute hospital setting, delivered as close as possible to people’s homes at the right time, in the right place, by the right team.

There are Primary Care Centres in the Region and specialist teams working in Mental Health, Health and Wellbeing, Social Care and Disability Services. Services are provided in various settings including the service user’s own home, day hospitals, community nursing units, hostels, specialist day care centres, training centres, respite care, and residential services.

Our region encompasses six acute hospitals and the services delivered include inpatient scheduled care, unscheduled / emergency care, maternity services, outpatient and diagnostic services and our community healthcare services, incorporating primary care, social care, and mental health services. Our collaboration with the University of Limerick and the Health Sciences Academy at UHL underscores our commitment to enhancing patient care through research, education, and community-based practice.

Arts and culture

The villages and towns of the Mid West are bustling with activity all year long. With enough culture to rival any city, the theatres and museums in the region are abuzz with amazing exhibitions.

Stroll through any town and you’re sure to hear a tune floating through the air, it’s no wonder that this area has bred some of Ireland’s finest musicians. You’re never too far from a great event here.

Gaelic Games – hurling in particular – is a core part of every community in the Mid West. The only thing that rivals hurling for the affections of the locals is rugby and local heroes Munster.

Connectivity

The region has its own international airport at Shannon, with its daily access to the US, the UK and mainland Europe. You can also reach Dublin Airport within two hours by road.

There are good train connections within the region and to the rest of the country. Limerick city is a major rail hub and has regular services to Dublin, Cork, Galway, Waterford and beyond.

Limerick is already one of Ireland’s most accessible urban centres with motorways to Dublin and Galway.

Local bus services connect the towns and villages in the region.
