Securing a Job with us

The HSE is committed to delivering the highest standard of quality care to the people in our communities and we are delighted that you are considering joining us, or perhaps you have already been offered a job.

To ensure that you are informed of all vacancies please register on the careerhub for weekly job alerts.

Many international staff are recruited through one of a small number of employment agencies that manage the full recruitment process on behalf of the HSE. If you are applying through one of these agencies, the agency will provide most of the support in these early stages of recruitment.

If you are applying directly to the HSE, this roadmap provides a number of supports to help you to learn about vacancies, and to provide guidance on the application and interview stages.

Let’s hear from some colleagues who have already made the move to Ireland.

Do I need a work permit or visa?

Nationals from the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, and Switzerland do not require an employment permit or visa to work in Ireland.

Many healthcare jobs are in great demand within the Irish health service so even if you are an applicant from outside the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you may well qualify for a skills employment permit. These skills permits also provide for your immediate family to reside in Ireland, and for your spouse or partner to work without the need for an additional work permit. As a citizen of a country that is not in the EEA or UK, you will also need a visa to enter Ireland.

Finally, for non-EEA nationals that have a valid residence permit and are already in Ireland, please see list of supporting documents required at application stage.

It’s crucial to note that healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, midwives, and health and social care professionials need to be registered with their respective regulatory bodies before practicing in the Irish health service. This ensures adherence to professional standards and patient safety.
