What is the new Surgical Hub?

The new surgical hub will provide a significant uplift in surgical capacity for the West-Northwest region, operating under the governance of Galway University Hospitals, a Model 4 hospital. It will reduce waiting times for day case procedures by supporting decongestion on the University Hospital Galway site, where there are significant demands and volumes of scheduled and unscheduled patient services.

Located on the Merlin Park Hospital site, the hub plans to deliver 10,000 day case surgeries and minor procedures, and 18,500 outpatient consultations annually. It will have 2 operating theatres, 2 minor procedure rooms and areas where patients can recover after a procedure. It will provide a range of day case specialties, to include General Surgery, Dermatology, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopedics, Urology and Vascular surgery.

If you have trained in Ireland and are now living and working abroad in a relative profession, we would love to see you return to Ireland. Financial supports are available when relocating to Ireland to take up position with the HSE for a minimum of two years.
