What is the new Surgical Hub?

The new surgical hub at Merlin Park Hospital, Galway, is an exciting development for surgical services in the West North West region. Governed by Galway University Hospitals, a Model 4 major acute and specialist hospital, the hub will expand access to high-quality planned surgical care. It will help reduce waiting times by moving suitable day-case procedures from the busy University Hospital Galway site, improving patient flow and easing pressure on acute services.

Located on the Merlin Park Hospital site, when fully operational, the hub plans to deliver around 10,000 day-case surgeries and minor procedures, aswell as 18,500 outpatient consultations each year. With two operating theatres, two procedure rooms and recovery areas, it offers staff a focused, patient-centred environment across a broad range of surgical specialities to include General Surgery, Dermatology, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopedics, Urology and Vascular surgery.

If you have trained in Ireland and are now living and working abroad in a relative profession, we would love to see you return to Ireland. Financial supports are available when relocating to Ireland to take up position with the HSE for a minimum of two years.
